Multi-Digit Divisors Knowing base 10 size relationships helps in understanding the process of sharing size by size in division. For example, here students are asked if they can share 6 thousands (6 crates) of candies. There are not enough crates to give one to each of the 30 people, but you can convert them to 60 boxes (plus you have 1 other box) and then share as many boxes as you can among the 30 people. The 1 box remaining is then converted to the next smaller size (tens), giving you a total of 15 tens. There are not enough tens to go around so we put a 0 there. Lastly, we convert the remaining tens to ones and share them. |
