Subtracting Decimals

Decimal subtraction continues base-10 subtraction to parts of wholes.
The first figure shows subtraction with borrowing.
The second figure shows borrowing across zeros.
The green blocks show what is taken away, the magenta blocks show what is left.
In step-by-step mode the student is guided through the process. For example, in borrowing across zeros, a whole is converted to 10 tenths, then one of those tenths is converted to 10 hundredths, leaving 9 tenths.
